This article seeks to highlight Carlos Rodrigues Brandão contribution to the field of participatory research, especially at its intersection with popular education in the lives of two researchers. The method followed was bibliographic and documentary research (BRANDÃO, 1981, 1983, 1984). Through reading and discursive analysis, the aim is to understand Brandão relevance in the context of participatory research in Latin America, as well as the intersections of this theoretical contribution in research on quilombola territories and Popular Education. The participatory research conducted in quilombola territories in Rio Grande do Sul, specifically in the communities of São Miguel and Rincão dos Martimianos, aimed to understand quilombola education in these communities, taking into account their cultural and historical peculiarities. On the other hand, the Association of Popular Educators of Porto Alegre has been conducting a process of participatory research through extension courses for social educators from the perspective of Popular Education. This culminates in the first free and public undergraduate course aimed at these professionals in collaboration with the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS) - Campus Alvorada. A democratic and collaborative process of curricular construction that respects and elevates the knowledge of social educators, closely aligning with the ideals of Popular Education.
