Abstract

A guiding principle in my teaching is accessibility of knowledge. However, the ways in which the transnational inquiry of Black communities are blocked by structural barriers of gender, class, nationality, ability, and citizenship renders fruitful intercultural discourse inaccessible. My reflections in this essay are to explore and elaborate upon those structural complexities and challenges while also making recommendations for other similarly positioned scholars to enhance the learning and exchange of the study of Black lives and communities with students across the globe. Through this essay, I hope to offer insights into the ways in which educators can strategize through colonial, oppressive academic environments.
