O significado de ser cavaleiro sofreu transformac?o?es ao longo dos se?culos. De servidores da monarquia contra os infie?is nas prac?as norte-africanas passaram a posteriori a significar nobreza, limpeza de ma?os e de sangue. Este trabalho pretende elucidar estas transformac?o?es sofridas pelas Ordens Militares, buscando esclarecer os principais conceitos constitutivos nos debates acerca dessas Ordens.

Abstract

The meaning of being a knight underwent transformations over the centuries, from the monarchy's servants against the infidels in the North African squares to later on to mean nobility, cleanliness of hands and blood. This paper tries to elucidate these transformations suffered by the Military Orders, seeking to clarify the main constitutive concepts in the debates about the Military Orders.
